This serie of banknotes (called Bayerische Banknote) belongs to the period in Bavaria and German history in which the country was plunged into a tremendous hyperinflation after the First World War, which had political consequences such as the proclamation of the Soviet Republic of Bavaria (1919) or the failed coup of the Putsch in Munich (1923) by Adolf Hitler. In these years the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria was approved and the hegemonic party was the Bavarian Popular Party. There are banknotes of 100 mark, 1,000 mark and 5,000 mark.
100 mark (hundert Mark)
This banknote worth 100 mark was first circulated in January the 1st 1922. On the main side it can be seen the written value of the banknote in Gothic characters, the name of the Regional Bank in German (Bayerische Notenbank) and the name of the currency, with a 100 in the background. In the upper left corner there's another 100 and in the right, a gap for the digital watermark. The rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.On the other side of the banknote there's the Bavarian coat of arms (Rautenflagge) holded by two lions with standards and a tree in the background. Moreover there's the written value of the banknote, the name of the Regional Bank and a text saying that counterfeiting banknotes is punished with German law, all of that surrounded with floristic and decorative elements. This banknote has M's and 100's as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 16.3 cm x 10.8 cm.
