England (2016-nowadays)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of the history of England and the United Kingdom in which a referendum on the permanence of the United Kingdom in the European Union was held with 51.9% of votes in favor of leaving the European entity (which led to the resignation of PM David Cameron), which began the Brexit, with the government of Theresa May. There are banknotes of 5 pounds, 10 pounds and 20 pounds.


5 pounds (five pounds)

This banknotes worth 5 pounds was first circulated in 2016. On the main side right, you can see the queen Elizabeth II, queen of the UK, that has been reigning for more than 60 years and two 5's. In the center it has Buckingham Palace (the royal residence), in London; the four nations coat of arms, the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the left there's a 5 and the National Bank logo, the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements. 
On the other side you can see Winston Churchill, an English politician and writer who led the UK to the victory in the Second World War and won a Nobel prize in 1953; next to him appears his sentence I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. The rest of the banknote is fulled the image of Houses of Parliament (the British parliament), decorative elements, a 5 and the written value of the banknote. Unlike many banknotes, it's made of polymer (plastic) so that is why this banknote has no digital watermark but transparent windows (with Elizabeth II, the Big Ben, the royal crown and the pound symbol). The size of this banknote is 12.1 cm x 6.5 cm. 

England (1971-1990)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of the history of England in which the reform of the local system took place with the Local Government Act of 1972 and the rebellion rate-capping of 1985 (which sought to eliminate the ceiling of spending of the city councils), and the period of the United Kingdom after the return of the conservatives to the power of the hand of Edward Heath, who did not manage to stop the economic decline of the country and was replaced in 1974 by the Laborist Harold Wilson, in whose government the economic crisis worsened and did not improve with his successor James Callaghan. Strict modernization of its economy began under the controversial conservative leader Margaret Thatcher since 1979, which liberalized the stock markets, state industries were privatized, inflation fell during this period and union power was reduced. However, the strike of the miners of 1984-1985 caused the end of most of the coal mining, replaced by the exploitation of gas and oil from the North Sea, also at which time the IRA took the issue of Ireland from the North to Great Britain, maintaining a prolonged campaign of attacks on the British continent. After the economic boom of the 1980s, there was a brief but serious recession between 1990, when it was replaced by John Major. There are banknotes of 1 pound, 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds and 50 pounds.

1 pound (one pound)

This banknotes worth 1 pound was first circulated in 1978. On the main side right, you can see the queen Elizabeth II, queen of the UK, that has been reigning for more than 60 years and a 1. In the center it has a caduceus and a cornucopia, the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the left there's the National Bank logo and a gap for the digital watermark. The rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.
On the other side you can see Isaac Newton, a 17th century English physicist, philosopher, theologian and mathematician who described the law of universal gravitation, laid the foundations of classical mechanics, optics and infinitesimal calculus, with his telescope and the heliocentric system. The rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements, a 1 and the written value of the banknote. This banknote has Isaac Newton as digital watermark and a security thread too. The size of this banknote is 13.5 cm x 6.8 cm.

England (1960-1971)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of the history of England in which the Redcliffe-Maudy Report was produced, which changed the local organization of England, and the period of the United Kingdom marked by the growth and economic development, the conflict of Northern Ireland between Catholics and Protestants, the French veto for access to the European Economic Community (1963) and the decolonization of colonial territories. Until 1971 the numbering system used was not the decimal, so one pound was divided into 20 shillings and each of these, in 12 pennies (so in each pound there were 240 pennies). There are banknotes of 10 shillings, 1 pound, 5 pounds and 10 pounds.

10 shillings (ten shilling)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period in English history before, during WWII (in which Winston Churchill became the PM of the UK and took part in the war in favour of the Allies). There are banknotes of 2/6 shilling, 5 shillings, 10 shillings, 1 pound.

10 shillings (ten shillings)

This banknote worth 10 shillings was first circulated in 1955. On the main side left, you can see Britannia, the female personification of the United Kingdom (and the name of the region in Roman times). In the center it has the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the right there is a 10; in the lower middle part, a gap for the digital watermark and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.
On the other side you can seen in both the left and right side, a representation of the written value of the banknote (10/-), with the first number meaning the number of shillings and the second, of pennies. The rest of the banknote is fulled with floristic motif. This banknote has curved lines and godness Britannia with a helmet as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 13.8 cm x 7.9 cm.

England (1948-1960)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of England and period of the United Kingdom in which, after belonging to the winning side of the Second World War, lost India, joined NATO (being an important ally of the USA) and with the electoral electoral victory of Clement Attlee began a process of prosperity in the 50s, creating the welfare state in the country, and the arrival of immigrants from former colonies. This serie of banknotes belongs to the period in English and British history in which Labor Tony Blair was prime minister, participating in that period in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan (2001), the Summit of the Azores and the invasion of Iraq (2003); subsequently, and until 2010, Labor also Gordon Brown was prime minister, suffering the consequences of the 2008 financial crisis, losing the 2010 elections to the conservative David Cameron, who introduced austerity measures against the public deficit derived from the crisis. In 2014, the Scottish Government held a Referendum for the independence of Scotland (rejected by 55% of the votes). There are banknotes of 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds and 50 pounds.

5 pounds (five pounds)


This banknotes worth 5 pounds was first circulated in 2002. On the main side right it can be seen the queen Elizabeth II, queen of the UK, that has been reigning for more than 60 years; and 5. In the center it has a gap for the digital watermark, the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the right there is a 5, the acronym EuR and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements. 

On the other side appears Elizabeth Fry, English activist and nurse, whose activism was in favor of the reform for legislation that ensures a more humane treatment in the prisons of England and Europe. In the left there's an image of Elizabeth Fry reading to the prisioners in Newgate prision, in London. The rest is fulled with the written value, two 5's and the name of the National Bank. This banknote has queen Elizabeth II as digital watermark and a security thread and an iridiscent circle with a 5 too. The size of this banknote is 13.5 cm x 7 cm. 


10 pounds (ten pounds)

This banknotes worth 10 pounds was first circulated in 2000. On the main side right it can be seen the queen Elizabeth II, queen of the UK, that has been reigning for more than 60 years; and 10. In the center it has a gap for the digital watermark, the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the right there is a 10, the acronym EuR and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements and nautilus. 
On the other side appears Charles Darwin, English naturalist who raised the idea of biological evolution through natural selection. In the left there's Darwin's lens on some flowers, a hummingbird and the HMS Beagle, the ship on which Darwin traveled and allowed him to elaborate his evolutionary theory. The rest is fulled with the written value, two 10's and the name of the National Bank. This banknote has queen Elizabeth II as digital watermark and a security thread and an iridiscent circle with a 10 and the allegoric godness Britannia too. The size of this banknote is 14.3 cm x 7.5 cm. 

20 pounds (twenty pounds)

This banknotes worth 20 pounds was first circulated in 2006. On the main side right it can be seen the queen Elizabeth II, queen of the UK, that has been reigning for more than 60 years; and 20. In the center it has Buckingham Palace (queen's residence) in London, the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the right there is a 20, the acronym EuR and the rest of the banknote is fulled with a gap for the digital watermark and decorative elements.  
On the other side appears Adam Smith, Scottish economist and philosopher, considered one of the greatest exponents of classical economics and the father of modern economics. In the center there's an old factory and the sentence : The division of labour in pin manufacturing: (and the great increase in the quantity of work that results). The rest is fulled with the written value, a 20 and the name of the National Bank. This banknote has queen Elizabeth II and £20 as digital watermark and a security thread and an iridiscent thread with a 20's and Adam Smith too. The size of this banknote is 15 cm x 8 cm.
