This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of the history of the city of Danzig in which the city had a period of city-state with semi-autonomy created after the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles. The state was formed by the cities of Danzig, Zoppot (Sopot), Oliva (Oliwa), Tiegenhof (Nowy Dwór Gdański) and Neuteich (Nowy Staw) and in it the population was 95% German, with a Polish minority with rights quite protected. The Free City of Danzig had a customs union, even though its political and party system was the same as that of Weimar Germany. The coin was created in 1923 with the approval of the League of Nations and its objective was to replace the German framework. At the time of its creation it had an equivalence of 25 gulden = 1 pound sterling. There are banknotes of 10 Danzig gulden, 25 Danzig gulden, 100 Danzig gulden, 500 Danzig gulden and 1.000 Danzig gulden.
This banknote worth 10 gulden was first circulated in February the 10th 1924. On the main side center it can be seen Artus Court, former Gothic market from the 15th century. In the lower part there's the written name of the banknote and the name of the Local Bank in German (Bank von Danzig), repeated in the upper part, and in the left there's Danzig's coat of arms. In the corners there are four 10's, a gap for the digital watermark, in the right of the banknote and the rest is completed with decorative elements.

the main side center it can be seen Motława river with boats, and the Żuraw (a medieval crane). In the lower part there's the written name of the banknote and the name of the Local Bank in German (Bank von Danzig),
repeated in the upper part, and in the left there's Danzig's coat of
arms. In the corners there are four 100's, a gap for the digital
watermark, in the right of the banknote and the rest is completed with
decorative elements.
