Arnstadt

Arnstadt is a city in the center of Germany inhabited by 24,481 people nowadays. It belongs to the region Thuringia, in the center of the region.

A bit about Arnstadt


Arnstadt is located on the river Gera and is 20 km far from the capital of Thuringia, Erfurt. It is the oldest town in the region and has a well-preserved historic centre. It is nicknamed Das Tor zum Thüringer Wald (the Gateway to the Thuringian Forest).
In 704 Arnestati (Arnstadt) is first mentioned and, during the XIV, it became a prosper town, based on the milling industry, cloth-making trade and other trades. In 1531 the Reformation was introduced into Arnstadt and the Fransiscan convents were secularized. The composer Johann Sebatian Bach, whose family lived for generations here, became the organist at New Church in 1703 and stayed here tuntil 1707. During WWII, there was a war camp, mainly for Poles and Russians (1,700 prisioners).
After the war, the city got expanded and now it's a manufacturing center with glassworks and foundries, a solar panels production plant and glove-manufacturing.

The town of Arnstadt coined banknotes of 10 Pfennig, 25 Pfennig and 50 Pfennig.

10 Pfennig (zehn Pfennig)

This banknotes worth 10 Pfennig was first circulated in 1921. On the main side it can be seen an empire eagle with a 10 and the word Pfennig. There are decorative elements and a text that says it can just be exchanged during a month after being asked to changed. In the lower part appears the year, 1921.


On the other side of the banknote appears a man with an eagle and five 10's. In the border, there is a text that says: "Die ganze Sache ist nicht ohne man hofft doch Stark dass es sich lohne löst mich nicht ein - dann kanns wohl sein" and means the whole thing is not without one hopes but strong that it is not worth loosing me - then it can be well. As for the digital watermark, it has no watermark. The size of this banknote is 8.3 cm x 6.1 cm.
