Flensburg

Flensburg is a city in the north of Germany inhabited by 85,942 people nowadays. It belongs to the region Schelswig-Holstein, in the northeast of the region.

A bit about Flensburg


Flensburg is 7 km far from the Danish border and it lies in the inner part of Flensburg Fjord and the east is in Anglen peninsula. The city has an important Danish minority (around 25 %), but the relation between German and Danish comunities is said to be healthy symbiosis.
The city was founded around 1200 by Danish people, soon joined by German merchants. It belonged to the Hanseatic League. It was the 2nd more important city in the Kingdom of Denmark between 1460 and 1864. After the battle of Flensburg, it started to belong to Prussia. After WWI, the League of Nations organized a referendum in the Danish and German border, with Flensburg resulted in staying in Germany. In May 1945, Flensburg was the site of the last government of Nazi Germany, which lasted from the 1st of May (announcemente of Hitler's death) till the 23rd of the same month.

25 Pfennig (fünfundzwanzig Pfennig)

This banknotes worth 25 Pfennig was first circulated January the 16th of 1920. On the main side it can be seen, up and down, four 25's next to the Pfennig symbol surrounded by a box. In the center, there is an image of Flensburg coat of arms with the 2 blue Schleswig lions (inherit from Danish times). In the left there are people clapping and happy (citizens) and in the right, other on the ground (city enemies). It is bordered with decorative elements.

On the other side of the banknote, it first says that after being published in the local newspapper, the owner had a month to exchange it in the banks mentioned in such newspapper, or it would lose it validity. As for the digital watermark, it has no watermark. The size of this banknote is 8.7 cm x 4.7 cm.
