This serie of banknotes belongs to the period in English and
British history in which Labor Tony Blair was prime minister,
participating in that period in Operation Enduring Freedom in
Afghanistan (2001), the Summit of the Azores and the invasion of Iraq
(2003); subsequently, and until 2010, Labor also
Gordon Brown was prime minister, suffering the consequences of the 2008
financial crisis, losing the 2010 elections to the conservative David
Cameron, who introduced austerity measures against the public deficit
derived from the crisis. In 2014, the Scottish Government held a Referendum for the independence of Scotland (rejected by 55% of the votes). There are banknotes of 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds and 50 pounds.

This banknotes worth 5 pounds was first circulated in 2002. On the main side right it can be seen the queen Elizabeth II, queen of the UK, that has been reigning for more than 60 years; and 5. In the center it has a gap for the digital watermark, the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of England). In the right there is a 5, the acronym EuR and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.
On
the other side appears Elizabeth Fry, English activist and nurse, whose activism was in favor of the reform for legislation
that ensures a more humane treatment in the prisons of England and
Europe. In the left there's an image of Elizabeth Fry
reading to the prisioners in Newgate prision, in London. The rest is
fulled with the written value, two 5's and the name of the National Bank. This banknote has queen Elizabeth II as digital
watermark and a security thread and an iridiscent circle with a 5 too. The size of this banknote
is 13.5 cm x 7 cm.

In the center it

some flowers, a hummingbird and the HMS Beagle, the ship on which

rest of the banknote is fulled with a gap for the digital watermark and decorative elements.

the other side appears Adam Smith, Scottish
economist and philosopher, considered one of the greatest exponents of
classical economics and the father of modern economics. In the center there's an old factory and the sentence : The division of labour in pin manufacturing: (and the great increase in the quantity of work that results). The rest is
fulled with the written value, a 20 and the name of the National Bank.
