Belgium (1919-1927)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period after the First World War and the subsequent interwar period (and its important economic crisis), in which the first Olympic Games were held after the world war in Antwerp (1920), a customs union was established with Luxembourg (1921) and in Under the Treaty of Versailles, Belgium received Eupen-Malmedy, Moresnet, Rwanda and Burundi from the German Empire, as well as economic compensation. There are banknotes of 1 Belgian franc, 5 Belgian francs, 20 Belgian francs, 100 Belgian francs and 1,000 Belgian francs.

1 Belgian franc (un franc/een frank)

This banknotes worth 1 franc was first circulated in 1919. On the main side left it can be seen Albert I of Belgium, Belgian king (1909-1934) and supreme commander of the Belgian army who personally took control of the troops at the outbreak of the WWI; and his wife, Elizabeth of Bavaria. In the right appears the written value of the banknote, five 1's (four of them in the corners) and the name of the National Bank in French (Banque Nationale de Belgique).
The rest of the banknote is fulled with a text saying that counterfeiting banknotes is punished with forced labor. On the other side of the banknote appears eight 1's, the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Flemish (Nationale Bank van Belgie), with the rest of the banknote completed with a text saying that counterfeiting banknotes is punished with forced labor and vegetal decoration. In the upper part it can be seen the coat of arms included in Belgium one: West Flanders, Antwerp, East Flanders, Hainaut, Flemish Brabant, Namur, Limburg and Luxemburg.
This banknote has geometric lines as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 8.5 cm x 5 cm.
