North Korea (2009-nowadays)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of North Korea being under the last moments of Kim il-sung and the beginning of the leadership of Kim Jong-il. There are banknotes of 1 won, 5 won, 10 won, 50 won, 100 won, 500 won, 1,000 won and 5,000 won.

5 won (오원)


This banknotes worth 5 won was issued in 2002. On the main side right, you can see members of the Workers' Party of Korea, the leading party of North Korea. Next to them appear the written value of the banknote and a 5. In their left appears the symbol used to refer nuclear reactions, the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행), another 5 and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen   the dam and Hwanggang Hydroelectric Power Plant in the Demilitarized Zone of Korea. There are two 5's in opposite corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm.

10 won (십원)

This banknotes worth 10 won was issued in 2002. On the main side right, you can see soldiers of the Air Force, the Navy and the Land Forces of the Korean People's Army. Next to them appear the written value of the banknote and a 10. In their left appears a communist military emblem, the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행), another 10 and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen  the Monument to victory in the War of Patriotic Liberation (World War II) built in 1993, in Pyongyang. There are two 10's in opposite corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm. 

50 won (오십원)

This banknotes worth 50 won was issued in 2002. On the main side right, you can see engineer, a farmer and an intellectual and in the background with the Juche Tower to commemorate the 70th birthday of Kim Il-sung, in Pyongyang. Next to them appear the written value of the banknote and a bright 50. In their left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행), another 50 and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen the Monument to the Party Foundation (with a hammer, a sickle and an ink brush, to symbolize workers, farmers and intellectuals) built for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea, in Pyongyang. There are two 50's in opposite corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm. 


100 won (백원)

This banknotes worth 100 won was issued in 2008. On the main side right, you can see mangnolia (몬란), national Corean flower. Next to them appear the written value of the banknote and a 100. In their left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행), another 100 and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday.
On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen  a big 100 with another 100, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm. 




200 won (이백 원)

This banknotes worth 200 won was issued in 2008. On the main side right, you can see the statue of Chollima (mythological winged horse too fast and elegant for mortals) representing the movement of rapid economic development, on Mansu Hill in Pyongyang. Next to it appear the written value of the banknote and a 200. In its left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행), another 200 and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday. 
On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen  a big 200 with another two 200's, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm.



500 won (오백원)

This banknotes worth 500 won was issued in 2009. On the main side right, you can see the Arch of Triumph in Pyongyang, built to commemorate the resistance of the Korean people against the Empire of Japan (from 1925 to 1945), after the Second World War. Next to it appear the written value of the banknote and two 500's. In its left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행) and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday. 
On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen  a big 500 with another two 500's, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm.

1.000 won (천원)

This banknotes worth 1,000 won was issued in 2008. On the main side right, you can see a house in Hoeryŏng, in North Korea, birthplace of Kim Jong-suk, revolutionary and first wife of Kim Il-sung (and Kim Jong-il's mother). Next to it appear the written value of the banknote and two 1,000's. In its left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행) and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen artificial lake Rangrim, considered important area for the conservation of birds, in the north of North Korea. There are two 1,000's in opposite corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm.

2.000 won (이천원)

This banknotes worth 2,000 won was issued in 2008. On the main side right, you can see a lumberjack cabin in the vicinity of Mount Paektu, a mythological place for all of Korea. Next to it appear the written value of the banknote and two 2,000's. In its left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행) and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen an image of Mount Paektu, volcanic mountain on the border between North Korea and China, being the highest mountain on the Korean peninsula. There are two 2,000's in opposite corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has magnolia flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.5 cm x 6.5 cm.

5000 won (오천)

This banknotes worth 5,000 won was issued in 2008. On the main side right, you can see a Kim Il-sung, North Korean politician, creator of the Juche ideology and supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea from 1948 to 1994, holding the positions of prime minister (1948-1972), and president (1972-1994), as well as Eternal President of the Republic. Next to it appear the written value of the banknote and a 5,000's. In its left appears the name of the National Bank in Korean (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행), a 5,000 and North Korea's coat of arms, fulled with decorative elements.
Moreover there is a conmemorative text for the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birthday. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen village of Mangyongdae, Kim Il-sung's birthplace, which preserves his house, built in the typical style of the country and there is also a museum of the revolution that aims to spread his first years of life.
