This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal in power, in which he purged his political rivals, got Mongolia into the UN (alleviating the Chinese veto thanks to the USSR) and further strengthened the collaboration with the Soviet Union. There are banknotes of 1 tugrik, 3 tugriks, 5 tugriks, 10 tugriks, 25 tugriks, 50
tugriks and 100 tugriks.
On the other side of the banknote appears the written value of the banknote, six 1's (four of them in the corners), a text saying that counterfeiting is illegal and decorative elements. This banknote has geometric flowers as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.6 cm x 8.1 cm.

This banknotes worth 1 tugrik was first circulated in 1955. On the main side right it can be seen Damdin Süjbaatar, father of modern Mongolia, emancipator of the country of the Chinese guardianship, distributed lands and flocks, and canceled the external debt. In the left appears the coat of arms and official name of Mongolian People's Republic (Бугд Найрамдах Монгол Ард Үлс), with the written value of the banknote and name of National Bank in Mongolian (Үлсын Банк).
