Portugal (1983-1995)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period in which the country joins the Community of European States (EEC, embryo of the EU) and the country progresses economically. There are banknotes of 20 Portuguese escudos, 100 Portuguese escudos, 500 Portuguese escudos, 1,000 Portuguese escudos, 2,000 Portuguese escudos, 5,000 Portuguese escudos and 10,000 Portuguese escudos

100 Portuguese escudos (cem escudos)

This banknote worth 100 escudos was first circulated in February the 12th of 1987. On the main side right it can be seen Fernando Pessoa, 20th century Portuguese poet and writer, considered one of the most important in Portuguese and world literature. In the right there's also a 100 and in the left, another 100, the written value of the banknote, Portugal's coat of arms, as well as the name of the National Bank in Portuguese (Banco de Portugal).
The rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements. On the other side of the banknote it can be seen the rose of the motto Dat Rosa Mel Apibus (the rose gives honey to the bees) and some of the heteronyms Pessoa used in his works. Moreover there are four 100's in the corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the National Bank and decorative elements. This banknote has Fernando Pessoa as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 15 cm x 7.5 cm.
