This serie of banknotes belongs to the years
after Belgian Congo independence and during in which Belgium joined NATO
and created Benelux with the Netherlands and Luxembourg. There
are banknotes of 20 Belgian francs, 50 Belgian francs, 100 Belgian francs, 500 Belgian francs, 1,000
Belgian francs and 5,000 Belgian francs.
On the other side you can see the Atomium, a Belgian landmark built in 1958 designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn, in Brussels. In the left part of the banknote there is gap and two 20, and in the center, the written value and the name of the National Bank in Flemish (Koninkrijk Belgie Thesaurie). The whole banknote is decorated with decorative elements. This bankntoe has Leopold I (first king of Belgium) as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 11.6 cm x 5.8 cm.
On the other side you can see The Belgian Parliament Building, neoclassic building in Brussels. In the right part of the banknote there is gap and has two 50's, and in the center, the written value and the name of the National Bank in French (Royaume de Belgique Tresorerie). The whole banknote is decorated with decorative elements. This banknote has king Baudouin as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 12.6 cm x 6.3 cm.
20 Belgian francs (vingt francs/twintig frank)
This banknotes worth 20 francs was first circulated in April the 15th 1964. On the main side left, you can see Baudouin, the Belgian king in those times, being the last king in Belgian Congo. In the right part of the banknote appears Belgian coat of arms with a lion (called Leo Belgicus) and the motto L'union fait la force (unity makes strength). This banknotes worth 50 francs was first circulated in May the 16th 1966. On the main side right, you can see Baudouin, the Belgian king in those times and his wife Fabiola de Mora. In the left part of the banknote appears Belgian coat of arms with a lion (called Leo Belgicus) and the motto Eendracht Maakt macht (unity makes strength). There is a gap, a 50, and in the middle, the written value and the name of the National Bank in Flemish (Koninkrijk Belgie Thesaurie).On the other side you can see The Belgian Parliament Building, neoclassic building in Brussels.
