This serie of banknotes belongs to the period in which Greco-Turkish
War of 1919–1922 took place (finished with the Treaty of Lausanne),
contributing to a massive flight of Asia Minor Greeks and the Second
Hellenic Republic (after 1924 referendum). There
are banknotes of 50 drachmai,
100 drachmai, 500 drachmai, 1,000 drachmai and 5,000
drachmai.
The rest of the banknote is fulled with geometric elements and there are four 1,000's. On the other side you can see the confronting lionesses posing on both sides of a pillar above the lintel at the Lion Gate, at Mycenae archaeological site. In the lower part there's a sentence saying "Έκδοσης πέμπτη" that means fifth issue and has the name of the bank again. This banknote has no digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 19.6 cm x 9.2 cm.
1,000 drachmai (Δραχμαι Χιλιαι)
This banknotes worth 1,000 drachmai was first circulated in October the 15th 1926. On the main side center you can see a portrait of Georgios Stavros, founder of the private bank National Bank of Greece. In both left and right appear two Ancient Greek columns. In the center appears the written value of the banknote and the name of the bank in Greek (Εθνική Τράπεζα Της Ελλάδος). It has red stamp saying Bank of Greece (Τραπεζα τησ Ελλαδοσ), the Central Bank of the country.The rest of the banknote is fulled with geometric elements and there are four 1,000's.
