Greece (1978-2002)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period of Greece rejoining NATO and joining the European Union (EU) and economic sustained growth till the adopting of euro. There are banknotes of 50 drachmai, 100 drachmai, 500 drachmai, 1,000 drachmai, 5,000 drachmai and 10,000 drachmai.

200 drachmai (διακόσιες δραχμές)

This banknotes worth 200 drachmai was first circulated in September the 2nd 1996. On the main side left you can see Rigas Velestinlís, a Greek poet and patriot who fight against the Ottoman occupation, ending up betrayed and tortured till death. In the right side it can be seen a picture of Rigas singing his patriotic songs, the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Greek (Τραπεζα τησ Ελλαδοσ).
The rest of the banknote has three 200's and decorative elements. On the other side it can be seen the painting by Nikolaos Gyzis called " Krifó scholió", which represents the believe that during the Ottoman period, there were secret schools which taught Greek and Cristianism. The rest of the banknote has the written value of the banknote, three 200's and the name of the National Bank. This banknote has the face of Philip II of Macedon (king of Macedon in the 4th century B.C and Alexander the Great's father) as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 12.8 cm x 6.3 cm. 

1,000 dracmai (χίλιες δραχμές)

This banknotes worth 1,000 drachmai was first circulated in July the 1st 1987. On the main side center you can see the statue of Apollon Olympia, music, truth and prohecy and poetry god in anciente Greek religion, being the son of the god Zeus. In the left part appears two old drachmai, the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Greek (Τραπεζα τησ Ελλαδοσ). The rest of the banknote is fulled with geometric elements and, in three corners, there are 1,000's.
On the other side you can see in the middle the temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia (Ὀλυμπία), an old Greek city and birthplace of the Olympic Games. In the left appears Discobolos (discus thrower), a sculpture by Myron of Eleutherae, three 100's and in the lower part appears the written value of the banknote. This banknote has the face of Charioteer of Delphi (Heniochos) as digital watermark and a security thread too. The size of this banknote is 15.7 cm x 7.6 cm.
