Iran (1992-nowadays)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the election of Ali Khamenei as his successor, having as president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, whose objective was economic growth without changing the basis of the regime. This was succeeded in 1997 by the moderate reformer Mohammad Khatami, who failed in his attempt to make the country freer. In the elections of 2005 the conservative populist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won and was re-elected in 2009, with accusations of manipulation that led to the creation of the Iranian green movement (major demonstrations since the Islamic revolution). In 2013 he won the Hassan Rouhani elections, a fact that improved the country's international relations, attracting foreign companies and in 2017 he was re-elected. The suspicion that the Iranian nuclear program could have military purposes has led to a confrontation between Iran and Western countries, with a multitude of sanctions and the subsequent agreement, of which US President Trump left in 2018.
