This serie of banknotes is the first
after the end of the Second World War, period in which economic
hardships were suffered (such as rationing of food and goods) and part
of the population was forced to emigrate, the Indonesian Revolution took
place and, in the elections of 1946 won the Catholic Popular Party (KVP), followed by the Labor Party (PvdA), forming Louis JM Beel a coalition government. There are banknotes of 1 florin, 2.5 florins, 10 florins, 20 florins, 25 florins, 50 florins, 100 florins and 1,000 florins.
2.5 florins (twee en een halve gulden)
This
banknote worth 2.5 florins was first circulated in March the 18th 1945.
On the main side center you can see the queen Wilhelmina, ruling queen of the Netherlands, Suriname and other possessions from 1890 to 1948, being the longest reign of a Dutch monarch.
In both sides and in the corners
has six 2.5's, in the lower part has the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of
the currency in Dutch (Nederland Muntbiljet).
The rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements. On the other side you can see Netherlands' coat of arms, created by William I combining House of Nassau and United Provinces' coat of arms, with the sentence Je maintiendrai (I will keep in French). The rest of the banknote is fulled with four 2.5's in the corners, the written value of the banknote, the name of the country in Dutch (Nederland), a text saying that using or having fake banknotes is punished with less than 9 years of prission and geometric elements. This banknote has no digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 11.3 cm x 6 cm.
