This serie of banknotes belongs to the period during
the First World War, period in which the Ottoman Empire (ally of the
Triple Entente) under the command of Mehmet VI, in which the defeats
happened in the Campaign of Mesopotamia and in the Sinai and Palestine,
finding the Ottoman army in retreat on all fronts and with Arab and Armenian revolutions in its territory. The ticket is written in Turkish with Arabic calligraphy ruq`a.
There are banknotes of 1 piastre, 2,5 piastres, 5 piastres, 20 piastres,
1/2 pounds, 1 pound, 2,5 pounds, 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 25 pounds, 50
pounds,
100 pounds, 500 pounds and 50.000 pounds.
On the other side of the banknote there's a river with palm trees and a tour group and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements. This banknote has a bow pattern as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 9.5 cm x 5.6 cm.
1 piastre (غروش)
This banknotes worth 1 piastre was first circulated in January the 23rd 1916. On the main side center it can be seen a 1 and the written value in Ottoman Turkish. In the upper part appears Mehmet V's tughra (ceremonial signature used as seal by the sultans of the Ottoman Empire) and the name of the National Bank in Ottoman Turkish (دولت علیہ عثمانيہ). In the corners there are fou 100's and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.On the other side of the banknote there's a river with palm trees and a tour group and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.
