Scotland (1970-1995)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period in which Scotland got an industrial revolution and moreover old institutions like the Scottish Parliament are tried to be recover in 1979 referendum. There are banknotes of 1 pound, 5 pound, 10 pound, 20 pound and 100 pound.

1 pound (one pound)

This banknote worth 1 pound was first circulated in 1970. On the main side right it can be seen Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish writer during Romanticism, creator of the historic novel. In the middle appears the written value of the banknote, the name of the coining Bank in English (Bank of Scotland) and its coat of arms. In two opposite corners there are two 1's, in the left there's a Spear Thistle, national symbol of Scotland, and the rest of the banknote is fulled with decorative elements.
In the middle part of the back of the banknote there's the Bank's coat of arms (componed with Scottish saltire and four gold bezants), surrounded by thistles. In the left side there a sailing boat (symbol of the Union Bank of Scotland, absorbed by the Bank of Scotland) and in the right, Pallas Athenea with the expressión Ditat (that means she provides). Moreover there are geometric elements and three 1's. This banknote has no digital watermark but has a security thread. The size of this banknote is 13.5 cm x 6.7 cm.
