This serie of banknotes is the first one of
dictatorship of Primo de Rivera (caused by the bad result in the Spanish
protectorate in Morocco, during Rif War) which was allowed by the king
Alfonso XIII. There
are banknotes of 100
pesetas, 500 pesetas and 1,000 pesetas.
This
banknotes worth 100 pesetas was first circulated July the 1st of 1925.
On the main side left, you can see Felipe II (Philip II of Spain), king
in whose reign Spain reached the height of its influence and power.
In the center is El Escorial, historic residence of the King of Spain
as well as monastery, basilica, pantheon and library. In the center it
has the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of
the National Bank in Spanish (Banco de España).
In the right, it can be seen a gap used for the watermark. In the rest of it, there is a mosaic and the border is decorated with floristic elements. On the other side you can see La silla de Felipe II (Philip II's chair) by Luis Álvarez Catalá. It is said to be the place from where the king stare while El Escorial was being built. There are decorative borders with floristic motif. This banknote has Felipe II's face as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.6 cm x 10 cm.
100 pesetas (cien pesetas)
