Tatarstan (1991-1993)

This serie of banknotes is the first one after the fall of the USSR, when Russian President Boris Yeltsin encouraged the Russian republics to resume the autonomy they should have and the Tatar people voted on March 21, 1992 for a sovereign Tatarstan although the Kremlin did not recognize the results of the referendum. There are banknotes of 100 rubles.

100 rubles (сто рублей/йөз сум)

This banknote worth 100 rubles was first circulated in 1991. On the main side left it can be seen a Tatarstan's flag (green from Muslim religion, red from energy and the Russian minority and the white line, peace between Tatars and Russians). In the lower part appears theofficial name of the country in both Russian and Tatar (Татарстан). In the right part can be seen Söyembikä Tower (Сөембикә манарасы/ Башня Сююмбике), also known as Khan's Mosque, the main symbol of Kazan (Tatarstan capital city).
The rest of the banknote is completed with decorative elements. On the other side of the banknote there isn't anything. This banknote has scales as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 13.9 cm x 6.7 cm.
