Ukraine (2006-nowadays)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period after the Orange Revolution, with Yulia Tymoshenko in power and replaced by Viktor Yanukovych in 2006 until the elections to the Ukrainian Parliament in 2007 brought Timoshenko back to the position of prime minister. After the conflicts with Russia over the price of natural gas (which briefly stopped all gas supplies to Ukraine in 2006 and 2009) Viktor Yanukovych became again the president of Ukraine, which was looking for a more presidential model until Euromaidan (protests) that began in 2013 after Yanukovych's refusal to accept an association agreement with the European Union and seek to establish closer ties with Russia), in which 90 people died and took Petro Poroshenko (pro-European) to win the elections and sign the treaty of association. These events led to Russophone regions such as Crimea, Luganks and Donetsk to protest (and with the help of Russia) to initiate the secession of these territories (and join Russia), a goal achieved only by Crimea (without international recognition of the referendum and accession treaty the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation) and in the others, a civil war was provoked. There are banknotes of 1 hryvnia, 2 hryvnias, 5 hryvnias, 10 hryvnias, 20 hryvnias, 50 hryvnias, 100 hryvnias, 200 hryvnias and 500 hryvnias.

1 hryvnia (одна гривня)

This banknotes worth 1 hryvnia was issued in May the 22nd 2006. On the main side right appears Vladimir the Great, prince of Novgorod and Great prince of Kiev who converted to Christianity and initiated the Christianization of Kievan Rus. In the middle appears an image of orthodox saints and acolyte during the church ceremony and Ukraine's coat of arms and in the left, the name of the National Bank in Ukrainian (Національний банк України). The rest of the banknote is fulled with a gap for the digital watermark, the written value of the banknote, decorative elements and three 1's in opposite corners. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen a model of Kiev in Vladimir's time, with the churches of the Tithes and the Dormition of the Virgin in front. There are also a battle axe, a sword, a cross, a flail and an eagle as elements of the times of Vladimir. Moreover it has two 1's, the written value on the left, the name of the country in the right (Україна) and the symbol of the National Bank. This banknote has Vladimir the Great and hryvnia's symbol () as digital watermark as well as a security thread. The size of this banknote is 11.8 cm x 6.3 cm.

2 hryvnias (дві гривні)


This banknotes worth 2 hryvnias was issued in September the 24th 2004. On the main side right appears Yaroslav the Wise, prince of Novgorod and Great prince of Kiev, who temporarily united both principalities and Kievan Rus reached its apogee. In the middle appears an image of a hryvnia coin in Kievan Rus times and Ukraine's coat of arms and in the left, the name of the National Bank in Ukrainian (Національний банк України).
The rest of the banknote is fulled with a gap for the digital watermark, the written value of the banknote, decorative elements and three 2's in opposite corners. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen a model of the Cathedral of St. Sophia in the days of Yaroslav I, in Kiev. There are also an axe, a ceremonial bowl and the legal code of Kievan Rus, Pravda Rus'ka, as elements of the times of Yaroslav. Moreover it has two 2's, the written value on the left, the name of the country in the right (Україна) and the symbol of the National Bank. This banknote has Yaroslav the Wise as digital watermark as well as a security thread. The size of this banknote is 11.8 cm x 6.3 cm.

5 hryvnias (п'ять гривні)


This banknotes worth 5 hryvnias was issued in June the 14th 2004. On the main side right appears Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host of Cossack Hetmanate who led an uprising in 1648 to create state led by the Cossacks of Ukraine. In the middle appears Ukraine's coat of arms and in the left, the name of the National Bank in Ukrainian (Національний банк України). The rest of the banknote is fulled with a gap for the digital watermark, the written value of the banknote, decorative elements and three 2's in opposite corners. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen Church of Illinska, in Subotiv (where Khmelnitsky was born). There are also a bulava and bunchuk (Hetman's power symbol), bows and arrows, a samopal rifle, two sabre, javelin and spears as elements of the times of Khmelnitsky. Moreover it has two 5's, the written value on the left, the name of the country in the right (Україна) and the symbol of the National Bank. This banknote has Bohdan Khmelnytsky as digital watermark as well as a security thread. The size of this banknote is 11.8 cm x 6.3 cm.
