Ukraine (1990-1996)

This serie of banknotes is the first after the comunist regime in the Soviet Union (USSR) was overthrown and Ukraine declared its independence. There are banknotes of 1 karbóvanets, 3 karbóvanets, 5 karbóvanets, 10 karbóvanets, 25 karbóvanets, 50 karbóvanets, 100 karbóvanets, 200 karbóvanets, 500 karbóvanets 1,000 karbóvanets, 2,000 karbóvanets, 5,000 karbóvanets, 10,000 karbóvanets,20,000 karbóvanets, 50,000 karbóvanets, 100,000 karbóvanets, 200,000 karbóvanets, 500,000 karbóvanets and 1,000,000 karbóvanets.

1 karbóvanets (1 карбованець)

This banknotes worth 1 karbóvanets was first circulated in 1991. On the main side left, you can see Lybid, the sister of the siblings who founded Kiev. Her name means swan in Slavic. You can see in the upper part the name of Ukraine in Ukranian (Україна), a 1 and the word coupon (купон) and in the lower one, the name of the National Bank (національний банк україни). The rest of this part of the banknote is decorated with geometric elements.
On the other side of the banknote, there is an image of Kiev Pechersk Lavra, a world heritage and historic Orthodox monastery built in 1051. There is also a geometric flower and four 1's, one in each corner. The digital watermark is kind of labyrinth made with straight lines. The size of this banknote is 10.5 cm x 5.4 cm.



5 karbóvanets (5 карбованців)

This banknotes worth 5 karbóvanets was first circulated in 1991. On the main side left, you can see Lybid, the sister of the siblings who founded Kiev. Her name means swan in Slavic. You can see in the upper part the name of Ukraine in Ukranian (Україна), a 5 and the word coupon (купон) and in the lower one, the name of the National Bank (національний банк україни). This banknotes worth 5,000 karbóvanets was first circulated in 1995. On the main side left, you can see Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv and their sister Lybid, the siblings who founded Kiev. Next to them you can see Ukranian coat of arms. You can see in the upper part the name of Ukraine in Ukranian (Україна), a 5,000 and the word coupon (купон) and in the lower one, the name of the National Bank (національний банк україни).
