Morocco (1987-2002)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the last period  reign of Hassan II and the first of Mohammed VI, in which there was an economic crisis, there were elections in 1993 (with fraud), education was recognized in Berber and political prisoners were released, reforming the Constitution in 1996, democratizing a bit the political system and, with the ascent of Mohammed VI, the living conditions of women are improved (and polygamy is abolished) and free trade agreements with the United States and the European Union are signed. There are banknotes of 10 dirhams, 20 dirhams, 100 dirhams and 200 dirhams.

20 dirhams (عشرون درهم/vingt dirhams)

This banknotes worth 20 dirhams was issued in 1996. On the main side left it can be seen Hassan II of Morocco, king of Morocco from 1961 to 1999, leading the country in the form of absolute monarchy and responsible for the Green March, with which the cession of Western Sahara was achieved. In the center appears Hassan II mosque, the second biggest and the tallest mosque in the world, in Casablanca. Moreover it has the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Arabic (بنك المغرب).
The rest of the banknote is fulled with two 20's and decorative elements. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen one of Hassan II mosque's ablution fountiains with the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in French (Bank Al-Maghrib). In the lower part there are two texts in Arabic and Franch saying that counterfeiters banknotes is punished with prission. Moreover there's the name of the National Bank and in the lower part, the written value of the banknote. This banknote has Hassan II of Morocco as digital watermark and a security thread too. The size of this banknote is 13 cm x 6.8 cm.
