This serie of banknotes belongs to the period during which Angola is an overseas province of Portugal (also called Portuguese West Africa), emerging three independence movements (MPLA, FNLA and UNITA) that face the Portuguese state through a guerrilla war in the Portuguese Colonial War. There are banknotes of 20 escudos, 50 escudos, 100 escudos, 500 escudos and
1,000 escudos.
The rest of the banknote is fulled with Angola's coat of arms, two 20's and decorative elements. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen herd of antelopes running in the savannah plus four 20's (one in each corner). Moreover there's the name of the National Bank and in the lower part, the written value of the banknote. This banknote has no digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 12.9 cm x 6.2 cm.
20 escudos (vinte escudos)
This banknotes worth 20 escudos was issued in June the 10th 1962. On the main side right it can be seen Américo Tomás, Portuguese politician and military, 13th president of the Portuguese Republic under the Novo State who faced the Portuguese Colonial War. In the center appears Lobito (2nd most important port in the country), the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Portuguese (Banco de Angola).The rest of the banknote is fulled with Angola's coat of arms, two 20's and decorative elements.
