This serie of banknotes belongs to the
period of Myanmar being ruled by militars (even though Aung San Suu Kyi
party won the elections). During this period the country was accepted in
the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). There
are banknotes of 50 pyas, 1 kyat, 3 kyats, 10 kyats, 20 kyats, 50 kyats, 100 kyats, 200 kyats, 500 kyats and 1,000 kyats.
In one corner appears a 1 and two opposite corners there are two ၁'s, that is 1 in Burmese. On the other side you can see a boat-rowing at Kandawgyi Lake, in Yangon. You can see two 1's in opposite sides and the written name of the baknote. In the upper part appears again the name of the National Bank, but in English (Central Bank of Myanmar), and it's fulled with geometric decoration. This banknote has the letters BCM as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 13 cm x 6.5 cm.

You can see two 10's in opposite sides and the written name of the baknote. This banknote has the letters BCM as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 13 cm x 6.5 cm.
1 ကျပ်/kyat (တစ်ကျပ်/one kyat)
This banknotes worth 1 kyat was first issued in October the 31st 1996. On the main side right you can see Chinthe, a leogryph (lion-like creature) that is often seen at the entrances of pagodas and temples in Burma, Cambodia and Laos, being their protector. Next to him appears the written value of the banknote and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in Burmese (မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတော်ဗဟိုဘဏ်).In one corner appears a 1 and two opposite corners there are two ၁'s, that is 1 in Burmese.
