South Korea (2006-nowadays)

This serie of banknotes belongs to the period after the last presidency of Roh Moo-hyun, Lee Myung-bak's presidency, Park Geun-hye electoral win (first woman in being South Korea president) in 2012, 2013 crisis with North Korea after a nuclear weapons test and y Park Geun-hye dismissal in 2017 due to influence peddling, 2017 elections in which Moon Jae-in won, having later a period of tension with North Korea and then detente, with a meeting between Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un. There are banknotes of 1,000 wons, 5,000 wons, 10,000 wons and 50,000 wons.

1,000 wons (천원)

This banknotes worth 1,000 wons was first issued in January the 22nd 2007. On the main side right you can see Yi Hwang, one of the two most prominent Korean Confucian scholars of the Joseon dynasty and founder of the Confucian private school, Dosan Seowon. There are also two 1,000's, a Japanese apricot, Myeongryundang (educational institution in Korea during the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, in Sungkyunkwan, Seoul) and in the upper part, the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Korean (한국은행).  
In the lower part a text names the Korean government (한 국 은 행 총 재) and there are decorative elements. On the other side it can be seen Gyesangjeonggeodo, a painting of Dosan Seowon by the painter Jeong Seon. Moreover there are two 1,000's, South Korean emblem and the name of the National Bank in English (Bank of Korea). This banknote has Yi Hwang and a 1,000 as digital watermark and an iridiscent security thread. The size of this banknote is 13.6 cm x 6.8 cm.
