Spain (1940)

This serie of banknotes is the first one of dictatorship of Franco (after his victory in the Spanish Civil War), in the year in which the Meeting at Hendaye (between Franco and Hitler) remained Spain neutral in WW2. There are banknotes of 25 pesetas, 50 pesetas, 100 pesetas, 500 pesetas and 1,000 pesetas.

100 peseta (cien pesetas)

This banknotes worth 100 pesetas was first circulated January the 9th of 1940. On the main side center, you can see Christopher Columbus, a XV century explorer, navigator and colonicer who, under the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, compleated four voyages to America. In his left appears a woman representing America and in the right one, another woman representing geography. In the upper part appears the written value of the banknote and the name of the National Bank in Spanish (Banco de España).
There are four 100's, one in each corner, and decorative elements. On the other side you can see two 100's, the name of the National Bank, the written value of the banknote and Spanish coat of arms during Franco's times, which is based in the one who was used by the Catholic Monarchs. This banknote has 100's surrounded by the name of the National Bank as digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14.6 cm x 8.9 cm.
