This serie of banknotes belongs to the years of WWII, in the years
when Nazi Germany invaded Greece and there was a period with a huge
hyperinflaction. There
are banknotes of 50,000 drachmai, 100,000 drachmai, 500,000 drachmai,
1,000,000 drachmai, 5,000,000 drachmai, 10,000,000 drachmai, 25,000,000
drachmai, 200,000,000 drachmai, 500,000,000 drachmai, 2,000,000,000
drachmai, 10,000,000,000 drachmai and 100,000,000,000 drachmai,
On the other side you can see in the middle a 500,000 surrounded with geometric elements. In the lower part there's a sentence saying "Εκδοσισ Πρωτη" that means first issue. In the upper part there's the name of the National Bank again and four 500,000's, one in each corner. This banknote has no digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14 cm x 6.2 cm.
On the other side you can see in the middle the written value of the banknote and a 200 surrounded with geometric elements. In the lower part there's a sentence saying "Εκδοσισ Πρωτη" that means first issue. In the upper part there's the name of the National Bank again and four 200's, one in each corner. This banknote has no digital watermark. The size of this banknote is 14 cm x 6.2 cm.
500,000 drachmai (Δραχμαι Πσντακοσιαι χιλιαδεσ)
This banknotes worth 500,000 drachmai was first circulated in March the 20th 1944. On the main side left you can see Zeus (Ζεύς in Greek), sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion, who ruled as king of the gods of Mount Olympus. In the right part appears written the value and a 500,000. In the upper part appears the name of the National Bank in Greek (Τραπεζα τηε Ελλαδοσ) and in the rest of the banknote is fulled with geometric elements and, in the corners, there are four 500,000's.On the other side you can see in the middle a 500,000 surrounded with geometric elements. 200,000,000 drachmai (Δραχμαι Διακόσια Εκατομμύρια)
This banknotes worth 200,000,000 drachmai was first circulated in September the 9th 1944. On the main side center appears a 200 and the written value of the banknote. In the background it can be seen a part of the Parthenon Frieze, a high-relief marble sculpture that is said to represent the Panathenaic Games. In the upper part appears the name of the National Bank in Greek (Τραπεζα τηε Ελλαδοσ) and in the rest of the banknote is fulled with geometric elements and, in the corners, there are four 200's.On the other side you can see in the middle the written value of the banknote and a 200 surrounded with geometric elements.
