This serie of banknotes belongs to the
period after the country became independent and Macias Nguema created a single-party state.
There are banknotes of 25 ekuele, 50 ekuele, 100 ekuele, 500 ekuele and 1,000 ekuele.
In its left there is a red cock; the banknote is decorated with geometric elements. On the other side of the banknote, it can be seen a harbour and ships, in Puerto Macias Nguema (nowadays, Port of Bata). In the right part appears the gap for the digital watermark and in each corner there is a 100. It appears the shape of the cock too and a banana and cocoa fruit nexto the written value. The digital watermark is Macias Nguema's face. The size of this banknote is 16.2 cm x 6.9 cm.
100 ekuele (cien ekuele)
This banknotes worth 100 ekuele was first circulated in July 7th 1975. On the main side right, you can see Macias Nguema Biyogo, first President of Equatorial Guinea who stablishing a dictatorship untill his overthrow in 1979. In the left side there is a gap used for the digital watermark. In the center appears Equatorial Guinea's coat of arms and the motto Unidad, paz, justicia (unity, peace, justice) and in the upper part, the name of the National Bank in Spanish (Banco Popular) and the official name (República de Guinea Ecuatorial).In its left there is a red cock; the banknote is decorated with geometric elements.
